Ep 213 - Mindfulness Doesn't Mean Staying Calm All the Time: How Mindful Leadership Helps You Respond Instead of React

What if mindfulness isn't actually about feeling calm?
Mindfulness is often presented as a way to become more peaceful, relaxed and emotionally unbothered. But that's not what mindfulness really requires, and it's certainly not what effective mindful leadership looks like.
In this episode of Get Jasched, Jess explores why you don't have to be calm to be mindful. You can be frustrated, anxious, angry, overwhelmed or under pressure and still practise mindfulness. The difference is what happens next.
Rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable emotions, mindfulness can help you notice what's happening in your thoughts, emotions and body before automatically reacting. That awareness creates a valuable choice point between what you experience and how you respond.
Jess explores:
- What mindfulness actually means beyond "being calm"
- The difference between emotional regulation and emotional suppression
- Why leaders don't need to appear calm and unbothered all the time
- How mindfulness can help you respond rather than react under pressure
- The role of embodied awareness in mindful leadership
- Why difficult emotions can contain useful information
- How to recognise when you're becoming emotionally activated
- Why mindfulness sometimes makes you more aware before it makes things feel easier
- A simple Notice β Name β Choose practice you can use in moments of pressure.
Mindful leadership isn't about becoming the calmest person in the room. It's about developing the awareness and capacity to choose how you show up, even when you're not calm.
You don't have to control your emotional experience to lead intentionally. You have to become aware enough to work with it.
