This is a body scan meditation, derived from the body rotation part of a Yoga Nidra guided meditation.

In research, body scan meditations have been found to help with:

  • Decreasing perceived stress
  • Decreasing trait anxiety and depressive symptoms
  • Improving focus in attention on activities
  • More non-judgmental awareness of internal criticisms and other thoughts
  • Improving heart rate variability (HRV)
  • Contributing positively to mental health and wellbeing.

You can do this practice anywhere you feel comfortable physically, while in a position of rest.

There's more research to be done in these areas, but these are some of the positive effects that have been found in a variety of studies utilising forms of body scan awareness practices.
